Essex League 2023/24: Mid Season Review

Following a change in the league rules at the AGM, this season saw the East divisions combine to create a 14-team division. Ongar were in favour of the bigger league, and their early season form demonstrated this with September wins against Hamptons 3 & Lexden. October brought on the first of Ongar’s postponements, with postponed matches become a theme of the season so far. A tough visit to Gidea Park, not helped by half the team flying out to Jersey at 6am the following morning, saw our unbeaten start to the season end.

October proved a tough month with albeit tight back-to-back defeats to Hamptons 2 & Clements. November saw a repeat of our September form with some superb victories against Kingswood 3 and Thurrock. The end of November saw the long trip to Gidea Park 2 end in defeat and put a stop to our recent form. We finished the calendar year with Hampton’s 3 making the trip to Love Lane only to leave empty handed.

We finished the first half of the season with 5 victories and 4 defeats and are holding a solid mid-table position. Unfortunately three matches of the opening half were postponed which will give us a busy 2024 as we play catchup.
