Ongar Town Festival Friday 8th May
The Ongar Sports Club located at Love Lane in Ongar are very excited about being involved in the Ongar Town Festival.
Since the town will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE day the Sports Club felt
that this is a chance to organise something very special and an opportunity for us all to
celebrate as people did 75 years ago the arrival of peace in Europe.
At the Love Lane sports fields there will be fun and entertainment for all the family
throughout the day:
- A range of military vintage vehicles on show along with WW2 re-enactment teams and memorabilia stalls;
- Entertainment in the form of Punch & Judy, Merry Go Round, Bouncy castles for both children & adults;
- Arts & Craft stalls; plant stalls to name a few.
- Also there will be an opportunity for people of all ages to try out some of the sporting activities at the club such as squash, tennis or croquet.
- There will be musical entertainment and the piece de resistance will be a display by the Essex Caledonain Pipe Band. We are delighted to report that the band has been sponsored by Balgores Hayes and Mulberry House.
Throughout the day you will be able to tantalise your tastebuds by choosing from a wide
range of food and drinks stalls that will cater for all tastes …. Just the delicious treats you’ll
need to keep your energy up for the Festival.
We look forward to welcoming you all on the day. Come along and join in with our activities.

The OSRC has had a very busy time with the local schools as we attended fetes at Chipping Ongar Primary School, High Ongar Primary School & Moreton C of E Primary school. This was a great opportunity for us to promote the club and Junior Squash, but also helped us support a local school. It gave pupils of all ages a chance to get involved in a sport that they had never tried before. They even started competing with each other which was great fun.

We had the pleasure of hosting Ongar Cubs to introduce them to Junior Squash and at the same time help them get their sports badge. It proved a great success and was enjoyed by all who took part.
Squash and Tennis BBQ
This was attended by 43 people who all had a great time playing , eating , drinking and then being entertained by our very own Rusty Rockers .
Junior Squash Open days
These were well attended and enjoyed by the children .
Hopefully you have noticed that our club is starting to look a little bit cleaner and tidier recently?This is thanks to an enormous effort made by many of our members on Saturday 28th April. With a working party of 10 people we managed to complete a lot of jobs around the club: Painting the entrance hall, repainting the hall by the courts, cleaning all the paintwork and walls on balcony, repairing gent’s toilet door and relaying tiles in gents shower.
Special thanks to working party members:
John Fowles, Kay Hewitt, Jan McEwen, Dave McEwen, Peter Woodcock, Bruce Banks, Cath & Dave Honeywell.
We are not quite finished with improvement work but hopefully you agree that we have made a good start. Our aim is to try to improve the club to make it a better environment for our current members but also to give new members a positive first impression of the club. We were very thankful to the local Council for now providing us with a pot hole free car park. I think you will all agree that the newly laid and improved car park provides a more welcoming and safer environment.
Ongar Town Festival
The OSRC also had a stand in Jubilee Park at the recent Ongar Town Festival, giving us an ideal opportunity to promote our club and support Ongar. It was great to meet so many new people.
The weather was perfect and the OSRC had a large number of people come and give mini squash a try. Thanks to those from the club that showed their support and helped make it a successful day.
